Algebra One The overall grade will be based on scores in three areas. The areas are chapter tests, checkpoint quizzes, and homework. The content covered over the duration of the year will fall into alignment with both State and Archdiocesan standards.
The focus of the eighth grade curriculum will be to learn about the concepts of matter, physical science, and the periodic table. The overall grade will be based on points earned in four areas.
SS course Guide Students in grade eight will study ideas, issues and events from the framing of the constitution up to World War I, with emphasis on America’s role in the war. After reviewing the development of America’s democratic institutions, particularly the shaping of the Constitution, students will trace the development of American politics, society and economics and relate them to the emergence of major regional differences. They will learn about the challenges facing the new nation, with an emphasis on the causes, the course and the consequences of the Civil War. The students will make connections between the rise of industrialization and the contemporary social and economic conditions.
The eighth grade program of the Christ Our Life series is devoted to the study of God’s faithful love as it is revealed in the Church founded by Jesus Christ. The Church Then and Now is designed to help young adolescents grow in their knowledge and love of the Church.
In this course, students will have exposure to many selections and short excerpts from novels. Skills emphasized will be Critical Reading, Reading Comprehension, and Vocabulary meanings. The first half of the class will include an intensive grammar review; including spelling, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure, and a primary look at the important genres of literature. Students will build their knowledge base of short stories and narratives by historical and contemporary authors. We will also look at Poetry, Drama w/ reference to plays, and The Study of Greek Mythology. Fairy Tales and Fables will also be studied. Some of the major works like Westside Story, Romeo & Juliet, and The Odyssey are accompanied by film versions that we will watch in class. By the end of the course, both historical and new literature significance of writings will be apparent.
