MATH

The content covered over the duration of the year will fall into alignment with both State and Archdiocesan standards. The overall grade will be based on earned points in four areas.

SCIENCE

The focus of the seventh grade curriculum is to discover the dynamics of cells and the human body. Students will learn how they operate on both microscopic and universal levels. The overall grade will be based on points earned in four areas.

SOCIAL STUDIES

SS Course Guide Students in grade seven study the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, and Asia in the years A. D. 500Ð 1789. After reviewing the ancient world and the ways in which archaeologists and historians uncover the past, students study the history and geography of great civilizations that were developing concurrently throughout the world during medieval and early modern times. They examine the growing economic interaction among civilizations as well as the exchange of ideas, beliefs, technologies, and commodities. They learn about the resulting growth of Enlightenment philosophy and the new examination of the concepts of reason and authority, the natural rights of human beings and the divine right of kings, experimentalism in science, and the dogma of belief. Finally, students assess the political forces let loose by the Enlightenment, particularly the rise of democratic ideas, and they learn about the continuing influence of these ideas in the world today.

RELIGION

The seventh grade program of the Christ Our Life series is devoted to the study of God’s saving love as it is revealed through his Son Jesus. Jesus the Way, the Truth, and the Life is designed to help young adolescents grow in their knowledge of Jesus, that they may love him more ardently and serve him more generously.

ENGLISH

In addition to fulfilling the Archdiocesan standards in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Speaking and Listening, students will be able to comprehend, analyze and discuss literary selections in connection to the four literary elements of plot, characterization, setting and theme. Students will learn the writing process and prewrite, draft, proofread, and edit short stories while applying spelling throughout the curriculum. Students will create oral presentations for their peers and make use of various forms of technology throughout the year.
