St. Jerome Newsletter

March 9, 2010

Dear Parents,

We are happy to announce our Academic Decathlon team who participated at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Saturday. Mrs. Stacie Sheffie coached the team along with Mrs.Lynn Shulman. We are grateful to them for all the guidance and practice that they have given our team. We are very proud of our St. Jerome’s team: Samantha West, Stephanie Umeh, Josiah Sheffie,  Anthony Hill, Helena Tewolde, Andrea Loredo, Indigo Fisher, Tamar Davis, Gabriel Biren, Mekai Sheffie, Alyssa Lopez, Tenbeit Daniel, David Ifediba, Ariana Rosay, Joshua Patterson, Rediet Teferi, Eddie Azinge, Ijeoma Oti, Sebastian Shulman and Andrew Rosay. We look forward to next year with several of our fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students participating. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the event and support our team!

Spanish Classes – Ms. Neves-Cole has not been well and is out on disability and therefore not able to work with our students consistently. This program will not be graded on the report card; it is considered enrichment for this year.

LOST & FOUND: We are overflowing with items that are not claimed.
If your student is missing anything, please have them check the lost and found and claim any items that belong to them.

SMART TUITION AID: Applications are available in the office, or you may apply online at http://www.smarttuitionaid.com/

Carnival.....Festival Nouveau: A huge moneymaker for our carnival is confetti eggs.  Please take the time to make a small opening in any eggs you will be using this month, rinse them out, and send them to school with your child in the egg carton.  For every dozen turned in, you will receive 1 hour toward your service hours.  Write your child's name and grade on the top of the egg carton. Get your family to help out too!

CARNIVAL CLASS AUCTION BASKETS - All families have been or will be contacted by the class room parent to participate in the Carnival Silent Auction.  Every class donates a theme basket for the auction.  These baskets are always a HUGE hit at the auction and generate needed funds to keep our tuition costs low and support many of our school programs.  Please support your class and the carnival by donating generously!

In addition to the class basket we are looking for additional items donated by individuals or businesses: tickets to plays, sporting events, cosmetics, jewelry, hosting dinners, providing special services or consulting, rounds of golf at country clubs, wine baskets, kids classes for cooking, gymnastics or camps, gift cards and more.  This is a great opportunity to promote your own business or promote a business in our community.  Be creative, be generous, be supportive! Everyone can help make this event the most successful carnival ever!!!!!!!

NEW STUDENTS: We are currently accepting applications for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. If you know a family that applies and is acceptied, we will refund you the $75 re-registration fee for one child. Spread the word.

VOLUNTEER HOURS:  We have recycled paper that needs to be sorted. See Mr. Martinez for details.

Hawaiian Raffle: needs parents to stuff the tickets for school families and parishioners, THIS THURSDAY, in the music room, 6pm. Call Holly Hightower (310) 428-8163

CHILI FOR CHILE: The student council will be selling chili to benefit the people of Chile. It will be sold for $1.50. This will take place this Thursday at recess.
