St. Jerome School, located in Los Angeles, was opened in 1952 with eight classrooms serving students in Grades 1 - 8. By 1961, St. Jerome School had grown to sixteen classrooms, with two classrooms for each grade. However, in response to Archdiocesan directives in 1971, St. Jerome School decreased its enrollment by one classroom each year until there was one class per grade. A kindergarten class was added in 1973. The remaining vacated classrooms have been converted into a computer lab, science lab, library, office, workroom, kindercare room, extended care room, an activity/meeting room and an art room. In 1998 a physical fitness play structure was erected. In the same year the computer lab and library were re-designed to provide greater use of technology and media. Lab and classrooms were wired to have access to the internet.

Presently 300 students are enrolled in Kindergarten through Eighth Grade. The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet has served St. Jerome School from its beginning. At this time the faculty and staff consists of two Sisters of St. Joseph and men and women laity.

An Extended Care Program is provided in response to the growing needs of working parents. This program is open to all students enrolled in the regular school program. Hours are from 6:45 - 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Needs continue to change and education is becoming more complex. We continue to evaluate, plan and update the school. In April of 1997 we established a School Board to help us continue to plan towards excellence. The Board consists of school parents and members of the parish at large.
